POSITION SUMMARY:                

This position responsibility includes: designing, engineering, configuring, installing, testing, and documenting system architectures and component configurations with routers, wireless, VPNs, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, host protection tools, and other information.  Provides technical leadership to project teams in design and implementation of IT systems and networks. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Seven (7) years of experience in the information network field.
  • Experience configuring and supporting routers, switches, wireless, and other networking hardware.
  • Experience with wireless infrastructure, routing protocols (BGP and EIGRP), Voice over IP, VPNs, Firewalls, DNS, DHCP, IP network architecture.
  • Experience designing, installing, and supporting large enterprise networks.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or related field.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP); or CCNP level of experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a business environment in both, English and Spanish.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management, other departments, and public user groups.
  • Ability to design, coordinate, plan and manage complex technical solutions.
  • Ability to operate under deadlines, set priorities, and handle heavy workloads.
  • Ability to think logically and follow procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and other individuals s/he may have to contact in order to perform her/his job.
  • Ability to travel (domestically and overseas).
  • Ability to work extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends as needed.

Preferred

  • Experience with Palo Alto Networks Firewall.
  • Experience with Aruba Clear Pass.
  • Experience with Cisco ASA
  • Experience with Cisco Wireless Networks
  • Experience with Cisco VOIP Solutions
  • Experience with SIP
  • Experience with a variety of security tools such as IDS/IPS, Honeypots, Vulnerability scanners.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary

  • Designs, installs, configures, supports, applies security controls, and administers Cisco Routers, Switches, Wireless LAN controllers and access points in an enterprise global network environment.
  • Manages LAN/WAN, telecommunications, and voice over IP systems and recommends upgrades / enhancements as necessary.
  • Performs network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose network problems.
  • Develops and recommends strategies for network scalability, security, and enhancements by maximizing functionality of network equipment such as routers, switches, wireless controllers, wireless access point and wireless mesh units.
  • Performs network analysis and capacity planning and testing for remote office’s LAN/WAN environment.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation of network configurations.
  • Supports Internet, WAN, LAN, VPN services for domestic and outport offices in Latin America and Caribbean.
  • Implements and supports remote offices VPN connectivity.
  • Mentor Junior Engineers.

Secondary

  • Works with user groups to provide training, resolve questions, assess user needs, and recommend changes.
  • Responsible for system security planning, developing, and implementing security policies across multiple platforms.
  • Provides technical assistance in identifying, evaluating, and developing systems and procedures that are cost effective and meet business requirements.
  • Other special projects as assigned by Management.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use his fingers.

  • The employee is continuously required to sit.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Reports directly to the IT Manager.  Exercises supervision over junior network engineer positions

 

CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in office and throughout port Terminal facilities
  • Work is frequently performed in outdoor environments, during day and night shifts exposed to changing weather (temperature & humidity)
  • The employee occasionally works near moving vehicles/trucks/equipment and/or mechanical parts
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate when work is performed in the office environment.  The outdoor environment may be moderate to loud depending on the area
