SUMMARY: Our fresh pork sales department is looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our sales team.   The training program will last from 8-12 months. Upon completion of the program, trainees will be able to bid on open positions in management or technical roles with Seaboard Foods.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following: (other duties may be assigned)


Trainee Development Program:

  • Orientation and integrated system overview, with exposure and understanding of core areas of the business, including support departments (2-3 months of this orientation will take place in Guymon, OK)
  • Specific technical training in areas of interest, depending upon needs
  • Supervisory, leadership training, communication and problem solving
  • Business management and strategies
  • Trainees may be asked to work in various areas of the sales department, as needed through the training period


  • Bachelor’s degree with an agriculture background that includes animal production or meat science
  • Excellent communication skills (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Good math skills, with background in understanding of concepts for basic algebra / geometry for calculating discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, proportions, area, and volume
  • Excellent listening, presentation, and analytical skills are preferred
  • Cognitive ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Assertive personality with ethics and integrity
  • Highly organized and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of standard programs used in the sales and marketing areas (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Explorer, etc.)
  • Sales experience preferred


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in selling & promoting the company’s products to existing and targeted customers
  • Will assist in all areas of the sales department and channels
  • Call prospective customers to explain types of products offered and the benefits to customers, versus the competition
  • Stay abreast of the meat protein markets with direction from VP Retail Sales, Sales Managers, Pricing Manager, Sales Representatives, and other department heads
  • Quote prices and persuade customers to buy
  • Secure, place and fill orders with customers and help arrange delivery dates by assisting and learning the load building / consolidation process
  • Assist in order entry and keying customer data into the computer system
  • Assist with customer visits to our processing facilities
  • Limited travel with Seaboard sales representatives to meet current and potential customers
  • Provide needed fill-in to any and all sales representative positions, when sales reps are out of the office
  • Organize regularly scheduled product reviews and competitor comparisons.   Will require follow-up reports and summaries
  • Will work with all areas and groups that work symbiotically with sales to enable our daily business.  (operations, transportation, credit, IT)
  • Regular meetings with mentors to measure progress and critique performance, as well as plan ahead
  • Other duties and training as assigned
